The Expedition to the End of the World brought the UK Green Film Festival to a close last night, and saw Daniel Dencik back in the director's chair.
This is the second feature film for Dencik after he made his debut with documentary Moon Rider back in 2012. He is back with the documentary genre, which also weaves in some great live action elements.
On a three-mast schooner aboard with artists, scientists and ambitions worthy of Noah or Columbus, we set off towards the end of the world: in this case, the rapidly melting ice massifs in North-East Greenland.
An epic journey where the brave sailors get acquainted with imaginary tent pitches, polar bear nightmares and entirely new species.
But in their encounter with the new, unknown parts of our world, the crew - which ranges from the artists Tal R and Daniel Richter to the geologist Minik Rosing - addresses a number of questions of a fundamental, existential nature.
The imagery that Dencik captures with this movie are just stunning - it really is a beautiful film with some breathtaking landscapes being put centre stage.
Of course, the movie does have an environmental message as this group of scientists, biologists, and geologists set out to explore one of the most untouched regions on the planet - however, that message is not too in your face.
As well as being given a guided tour of this sunning and brutal part of the world, the movie also explores the relationships that build between this group of strangers.
This is an area of the world that has not been able to be explored because of ice blocking - this has changed due to global warming in recent years.
You really do go on an adventure with the people on board the ship, as you really are discovering along with them.
There is an excitement to The Expedition to the End of the World from start to finish, as we are taken to a part of the globe that so few people have seen.
Couple that with some incredibly beautiful images, and you really do have a documentary that is not to be missed.
