The Avengers: Age of Ultron

The Avengers: Age of Ultron

The release of The Avengers: Age of Ultron is just under two years away and yet it is the most talked about movie at the moment.

Age of Ultron will round off Marvel's Phase 2 of movies, but before then we are going to be treated to Thor: The Dark World, Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Guardians of the Galaxy.

But it is The Avengers: Age of Ultron that we are concentrating on today, as we look at everything that we know about the film so far.

- Joss Whedon is back in the director's chair.

From the moment that there was talk of a second Avengers movie Whedon, I am glad to say was on board.

He has been writing the script for the biggest part of the year, and dropping hints along the way.

- The film will be called The Avengers: Age of Ultron

Fans at Comic Con were looking forward to panels for Thor and Captain, never imagining that Joss Whedon himself would pop up to chat a little about the Avengers sequel.

That is exactly what he did. It was Whedon that revealed that the film would be called The Avenger: Age of Ultron - obviously giving away the villain for the film.

Given that we saw Thanos in the closing credits of Avengers Assemble, it was assumed that he would be the baddie this time around.

- Return of Tony Stark

When Iron Man 3 hit the big screen this summer Robert Downey Jr has completed his contractual agreement.

During the promotional tour for Iron Man 3 it was uncertain whether or not Downey Jr would be returning to this role.

But after a bit of negotiating he will be appearing The Avengers: Age of Ultron and Avengers 3.

- No Ant-Man

Ant-Man is a Marvel movie that has been a movie in the pipeline for quite some time. However, it seems that we will not be seeing this character until Edgar Wright's stand alone film.

Hank Pym is the original creator of Ultron in the comics, but it seems that he may not have that role in the new Avengers film. There is a rumour circulating that it will be Tony Stark who will unwittingly create the new villain... watch this space.

- No Agent Coulson or Loki

It has already been confirmed that these two characters will not be making an appearance in the film.

It seems that Agent Coulson was not as dead as we thought he was in Avengers Assemble - he is set to make an appearance in TV series Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

We will be seeing Loki in Thor: The Dark World later this year, but not in the Avengers sequel.

How Thor: The Dark World and Captain America: The Winter Solider are going to lead into The Avengers: Age of Ultron is not yet known.

- Black Widow has a bigger part

Whedon has continued to chat about the movie after Comic Con and has revealed that Black Widow will be a 'huge part' of the film.

He revealed that he was keen to focus on the characters that do not have their own franchises yet.

We are going to see Black Widow back on the big screen in Captain America: The Winter Solider as she teams up with Chris Evans.

- Better developed Hawkeye

Jeremy Renner made no secret that he was unhappy with the way Hawkeye was depicted in Avengers Assemble.

It seems that Whedon has listened to the Oscar nominated actor and we will see a more rounded Hawkeye and a character that is more integrated into the team.

- Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver on board

While we are going to be seeing plenty of familiar faces on the cast list there will also be some new additions.

We have known for quite some time that Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch would be two of the new characters.

While they are also known in the X-Men universe the children of Magneto have appeared in the Avengers comics.

Aaron Taylor-Johnson has been linked with the role almost immediately after it was revealed that this character was going to be involved.

Taylor-Johnson has revealed that he has sat discussed the character and the movie with Whedon; however he didn't reveal whether or not he has signed on the dotted line.

Filming is set to get underway on the film early next year and The Avengers: Age of Ultron is released 1st May 2015.
