The Goonies was released back in 1985 and was a favourite of mine when I was growing up, and still is at the grand old age of twenty six.
Directed by Richard Donner the movie brought together a cast that included Josh Brolin and Sean Astin, who have gone on to star in No Country For Old Men and The Lord of the Rings trilogy.
The movie follows brothers Mikey & Brand, as well as their friend, as they set out on an adventures to find some legendary pirates treasure in a bid to save their home.
But with the Fratellis on their tail and booby-traps at every turn it's a race to see who can get to One Eyed Willie and his treasure first.
The Goonies remains one of the best kids movies of all time because it is charming and it's fun.
But this movie delivers a powerful message of the strength of family and friendship and what lengths we will go to protect those we care about most.
But at the heart of this movie is childhood innocence and the willingness to believe that stories of pirates and lost treasure could be true - something that we can all relation to.
And it's the unshakeable faith of the central character of Mikey, played by Astin, that really carries the movie along.
But The Goonies is also a good old adventure movie, seriously they don't make them like this anymore.
There is danger around every corner and bad guys giving chase, as well as blending action and comedy almost seamlessly.
The Goonies remains one of the best movies in it's genre and is perhaps more charming a watch today as it has the innocence that is missing in modern day kids movies.
