Sylvester Stallone says Arnold Schwarzenegger was the obvious choice to star opposite him in 'Escape Plan'.
The veteran action hero claims it was a no-brainer teaming up with his fellow muscleman for the upcoming thriller - about a structural engineer who is tries to escape a prison of his own design after being wrongly convicted of a crime.
Stallone told Nuts magazine: "After I read the script I knew 'Escape Plan' was the one. The most important thing when planning a movie - who are the players? Who's gonna be your competition and your antagonist and eventually your buddy in this thing? Arnold, of course! When he complied, it was green-lit immediately. There was no one else considered, he was the guy."
Austrian-born Schwarzenegger - who put his film career on hold to hold office as the Governor of California from 2003 until 2011 - had been waiting for the perfect opportunity to team up with Stallone in an action movie for a number of years.
He said: "For me it was all about the chance to work with Sly. We were trying for decades to make a movie together and finally we found the right story. Yes, we did 'Expendables', but this was starring alongside each other throughout the whole movie."
The Hollywood heavyweights claim their real-life relationship is just as competitive and testosterone-charged as their on-screen partnership.
Stallone joked: "We're very competitive and everything we've accomplished in our lives has been through struggle and overcoming the odds because we're just not willing to settle for second best.
"Rarely do you get two personalities like this working together. We're just a couple of old warhorses and more than a little alpha territorial."
