Blue Ruin

Blue Ruin

Sundance London is coming to the O2 for the third year, and will showcase some of the stand out films from the Sundance Film Festival.

The 2014 programme boasts a mix of drama, documentary, American & British projects, as well as a series of shorts.

We take a look at some of the movie that you cannot miss if you are attending the festival at the end of April.

- Blue Ruin

Blue Ruin is a movie that has been lighting up the festival circuit, and it is a film that we are excited to finally see.

The movie marks the return of Jeremy Saulnier to the director's chair for the first time since he made his debut with Murder Party. His writing skills are also on show as he has penned the screenplay.

Blue Ruin follows a mysterious outsider’s quiet life turns upside down when he returns to his childhood home to carry out an act of vengeance.

Macon Blair will take on the central role, while Devin Ratray, Amy Hargreaves, and Kevin Kolack will also star.

- The Case Against 8

2014 has already been another great year for documentary so far, and there are a couple to watch out for at Sundance London.

The Case Against 8 is one of them, as Ben Cotner and Ryan White team up for the first time. Cotner is making his directorial debut, while this is White's first film since Good Ol' Freda.

Shot over five years, the movie is a behind the scenes look inside the case to overturn California’s ban on same-sex marriage.

The Case Against 8 won the Directing Award: U.S. Documentary at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival, and will receive its international premiere in London.

- Dinosaur 13

Dinosaur 13 is another documentary film that we are excited to see, as Todd Miller returns to the director's chair.

This is the third documentary film of his career, as he follows up Gahanna Bill and Scaring the Fish.

If dinosaurs, the past, and archaeology is what interests you, then this movie will be right up your street.

An unprecedented saga in human history unfurls in this true tale of the world’s greatest dinosaur discovery and the ensuing battle to possess a 65-million-year-old treasure.

The movie will receive its international premiere at the festival.

- Frank

There are also a couple of British films on the programme at Sundance London, and Frank is one of them.

Frank is set to be one of the most unique films of the year, as Michael Fassbender, Maggie Gyllenhaal and Domhnall Gleeson all star.

Lenny Abrahamson is back in the director's chair for the first time since What Richard Did, while Jon Ronson and Peter Straughan penned the screenplay.

Frank is an offbeat comedy about a wannabe musician who finds himself out of his depth when he joins an avant-garde rock band led by the enigmatic Frank - a musical genius who hides himself inside a large fake head.

Frank played at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year, but Sundance London will make its UK premiere.

- Drunktown's Finest

Sydney Freeland makes her feature film directorial debut with Drunktown's Finest, a film that is also heading to Sundance London.

Freeland kicked off her directing career in shorts, and is now making the move into feature film; she has also penned the screenplay.

Drunktown's Finest will receive its international premiere at the festival as Jeremiah Bitsui, Carmen Moore, and Morningstar Angeline all star.

The movie follows three young Native Americans - a rebellious father-to-be, a devout Christian woman, and a promiscuous transsexual - come of age on an Indian reservation.

- Little Accidents

Little Accidents is another drama that we are excited to see, as Sara Colangelo is one of the female filmmakers to watch out for. She has also penned the screenplay.

Elizabeth Banks is set to lead an all-star cast, as Boyd Holbrook, Jacob Lofland, Josh Lucas, and Chloë Sevigny are also set to star.

n a small American coal town living in the shadow of a recent mining accident, the disappearance of a teenage boy draws three people together - a surviving miner, the lonely wife of a mine executive, and a local boy - in a web of secrets.

Colangelo is one of four female filmmakers being shown in the feature film programme, and this is a movie that is not to be missed.

Other movies to watch out for include Memphis, Hits, Finding Fela, and Reservoir Dogs
