John Boyega

John Boyega

No cast list has been more anticipated this year than that of Star Wars: Episode VII.

Just about every actor and actress has been interviewed for a role in the film, and now the main cast list has been announced.

There are some terrific new faces joining the franchise, alongside original stars Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, and Kenny Baker.

Now it is time to meet the cast of one of the most anticipated films of 2015...

- John Boyega

John Boyega kicked off his acting career back in 2011, and has moved between film and television projects during that time.

UK film fans will know Boyega best for the role of Moses in Attack the Block - which was directed and written by Joe Cornish.

Since then, he has gone on to appear in Junkhearts, Half of a Yellow Sun and TV Movie The Whale.

He is currently working on 24: Live Another Day, as he takes on the role of Chris Tanner alongside Kiefer Sutherland.

However, his star is set to rocket over the next twelve months as Star Wars: Episode VII is the biggest film role of his career to date.

- Adam Driver

Adam Driver is no stranger to the big screen with roles in the likes of Inside Llewyn Davis, J Edgar, and Lincoln under his belt in recent years.

However, he is best known for his role of Adam Sackler in hit TV series Girls.

Driver has been focusing on film work over the last twelve months, having completed work on This Is Where I Leave You, Midnight Special, Hungry Heart and While We're Young.

We last saw him on the big screen in Tracks, as he teamed up with Mia Wasikowska.

Driver has been linked to a Star Wars role for quite some time, and this will see him tackle the big budget blockbuster for the first time in his acting career.

- Oscar Isaac

Oscar Isaac really has seen his star rocket in the last six months or so, with his role in the Coen Brothers film Inside Llewyn Davis.

I think it is fair to say, that with a Star Wars role under his belt that star is only going one way... and that is up.

Isaac is back on the big screen later this month, as he teams up with Viggo Mortensen and Kirsten Dunst for The Two Faces of January.

He has also completed work on Mojave, A Most Violent Year, and Ex Machina.

Isaac is one of the more experienced names on this cast list, but Star Wars: Episode VII is the biggest film of his career.

- Andy Serkis

Andy Serkis is another of the British actors on board, and this actor is no stranger to the blockbuster project.

Serkis already has the likes of The Lord of the Rings trilogy, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, King Kong, and Rise of the Planet of the Apes already to his credit.

I have always been a big fan of Serkis, and believe that has hasn't got the recognition that he should for all of the fantastic motion capture performances that he has given.

He will be back on the big screen this summer with Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, where he will reprise the role of Caesar. He has also been linked with the upcoming Tintin movies.

- Domhnall Gleeson

Domhnall Gleeson is another actor who has been making a name for himself in recent years, About Time being one of the rom-com hits of last year.

We have already seen him in Calvary this year, and he will be back with Frank later this month: a movie that sees him star alongside Michael Fassbender and Maggie Gyllenhaal.

He has also completed work on Unbroken - which is already one of the most talked about films of the year - with Angelina Jolie in the director's chair. The movie is being tipped as a possible Oscar contender.

Star Wars will see Gleeson reunite with Oscar Isaac, after they both worked together on the upcoming Ex Machina.

- Max von Sydow

Max von Sydow enjoyed an acting career that has spanned over sixty years, and seen him deliver some truly wonderful performances.

The Seventh Seal, Through A Glass Darkly, The Exorcist, and Three Day of the Condor are some of his most famous movies.

More recently, we have seen him appear in Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close, Robin Hood, and Shutter Island.

He has also completed work on The Letters, which is written and directed by William Riead.

Despite all of Sydow's experience, this remains one of the biggest movies of his long acting career.

- Daisy Ridley

Of all of the actors that have been announced for the new Star Wars instalment, Daisy Ridley is the least known.

She kicked off her career in 2013 and has worked mainly in television since she made her debut in Casualty.

Since then she has gone on to appear in Toast of London, Silent Witness, and Mr Selfridge. She will be making her feature film debut later this year with Scrawl.

The horror movie sees Ridley team up with director Peter Hearn, while Nathalie Pownall and Alice May Ferngrove are also on the cast list.

Star Wars: Episode VII is set to be the role that propels her career... are we going to see her star rocket?

The characters these actors will be playing is currently unknown. Star Wars: Episode VII is released 18th December.
