If you're still not feeling festive, then we think it's time to settle down for the next few days ahead of December 25th, and put on some of the seriously brilliant Christmas films we've listed below!
Elf
Elf is an exceptional Christmas film. It has romance, family reunions, and most importantly, Christmas! Buddy the elf (Will Ferrell) has his big, weird heart set on making every single thing he sees as Christmassy as possible – the films’ focus is the festive season, and Buddy is almost always dressed as an elf; he makes oddly satisfying spaghetti decorated with sweets and pop-tarts. His wonderful bid to save Christmas is funny, charming and truly gets you into the Christmas spirit. It’s a Christmas fanatic's dream!
Love Actually
Love, family, friends and weird circumstances bring almost every main character in this film together at Christmas, and in doing so, creates a magically heartwarming Christmas film that has stood the test of time since its release in 2003. The star-studded cast including Emma Thompson, Liam Neeson and Hugh Grant make this film what it is – pure magic. The love all the characters share for each other and the ups and downs and the romance of it all is truly a film to watch with a hot chocolate and nothing but the Christmas lights on.
The Holiday
Two women from different countries swapping houses over the Christmas period to get away from two certain men may not sound Christmassy, but it really is. Iris (Kate Winslet) and Amanda (Cameron Diaz) swap houses and end up falling in love with the men they meet in the house swap. Amanda learns how to trust and just have fun after being cheated on, and Iris leans to let go of a man she’s been in love with for years. The charismatic characters and the wonderful Christmas aura that surrounds this film makes it so lovingly Christmassy.
Home Alone
There’s no Christmas film quite like the one where a kid is left along in a massive house over Christmas week because his family is so big, his own parents and even siblings forget him while travelling to Paris for Christmas! Kevin (Macaulay Culkin) is left alone just before Christmas – you’d think he’d be upset right? Instead he eats junk food and watches gangster films on TV. This film is simply nuts and doesn’t take itself too seriously – unless you’d believe a child of about 10 years old can stop two fully grown men from breaking into his house and does not call the police till the last minute. It’s a truly silly Christmas classic!
The Polar Express
Another film with pure Christmas magic weaved into it so well. A train takes children to meet Santa on Christmas Eve? We’re in! One boy’s journey to meet Santa is filled with memorable characters and the trip of a lifetime – how can you go wrong? The children receive golden tickets to meet the man himself, make lifelong friends, and sing songs about the train they’re on and of course, about hot chocolate. Its as simple as that!
Jingle All The Way
Yet another wonderfully silly Christmas flick. Arnold Schwarzenegger stars in his first comedy and boy does he nail it! He forgot to buy his son ‘Turbo Man’, the coolest action figure ever, and must move mountains to get it for him. The film embodies Christmas comedy as Schwarzenegger ends up in the weirdest situations trying to get his son’s Christmas present. His silly performance is one of a kind as his massive frame is honestly what makes his character funny as he fights other parents in a bid to make his son’s Christmas the best yet. Do not miss this ridiculous family flick!
