RoboCop is one of the classic films of the eighties but will be remake and re-envisioned in 2014 by director Jose Padilha.
Padilha is the director behind Elite Squad and Elite Squad: The Enemy Within and we are excited to see him put his stamp on this well known story.
Joel Kinnaman will take on the central role of Alex Murphy in what will be the biggest role and biggest film of his career so far.
He is joined by an all-star cast as Gary Oldman, Michael Keaton, Samuel L. Jackson, Abbie Cornish, Jay Baruchel and Jackie Earle Haley are all on board.
2014 really is kicking off in style when it comes to fantastic cast lists and RoboCop is joining the likes of American Hustle, 12 Years A Slave and Monuments Men with the impressive line-ups.
In RoboCop, the year is 2028 and multinational conglomerate OmniCorp is at the centre of robot technology. Their drones are winning American wars around the globe and now they want to bring this technology to the home front.
Alex Murphy (Kinnaman) is a loving husband, father and good cop doing his best to stem the tide of crime and corruption in Detroit. After he is critically injured in the line of duty, OmniCorp utilizes their remarkable science of robotics to save Alex's life.
He returns to the streets of his beloved city with amazing new abilities, but with issues a regular man has never had to face before.
RoboCop is the first event movies of 2014 and is set to be one of the big action packed blockbusters of the year.
I personally was scarred for life when I saw the killing of Alex Murphy in RoboCop as a kid - of course, I saw the movie far too young - but I am intrigued to see how a new director and a new story plays out on the big screen.
So, if Oscar movies are not really your thing then RoboCop could well be the film for you at the start of the year.
RoboCop is released 7th February 2014.
