Ralph Fiennes has enjoyed a very successful career that has seen him tackle a whole host of different roles.
But this week sees him make his directorial debut with Coriolanus, in which he also stars.
To celebrate the release of the movie we take a look at some of Fiennes' best roles.
Amon Goeth - Schindler's List
Schindler's List was released almost twenty years ago, yes it really was 1993, in remains one of the greatest war movies to ever hit the big screen.
As well as being a beautifully crafted film that looks just stunning the central performances are superb.
It's a menacing performance from Fiennes and an Best Supporting Actor Oscar was well deserved.
Schindler's List was the movie that really put Fiennes on the acting map.
Count Laszlo de Almásy - The English Patient
In 1996 Fiennes took on another epic style movie in the form of The English Patient - which was directed by Anthony Minghella.
This was a sweeping romance/drama movie that is a beautiful movie with a very moving story.
Fiennes produces two very good performances pre-burns he is brooding and slightly mysterious while post burns he is a man who is haunted by the past.
The English Patient is an intelligent that really has been made on a grand scale - it's not one to miss.
Lord Voldemort - Harry Potter series.
Perhaps Fiennes most famous role is that of Lord Voldemort in the Harry Potter series.
He has created one of the best movie villains of all time in a franchise that has grossed $7.7 billion at the global box office.
It was really the first time that Fiennes had stepped into the big budget blockbuster and his background allowed him to develop a well round and rather menacing character.
Justin Quayle - The Constant Gardener
One of my favourite performances from Ralph Fiennes came in 2005 when the John Le Carre novel The Constant Gardener was adapted for the big screen.
Fiennes took on the role of Justin Quayle, a widower who is dedicated to investigate the death of his wife.
This is a fabulous adaptation of a great book it's both emotional and intelligent and Fiennes is simply superb.
It's a tortured performance from Fiennes as he so beautifully portrays his characters' inner turmoil and confusion.
Caius Martius Coriolanus - Coriolanus
This week he takes on the central role of Caius Martius Coriolanus in an adaptation of the Shakespeare play Coriolanus.
The movie marks the directorial debut for the actor and he is joined on the cast list by Gerard Butler and Vanessa Redgrave.
When Coriolanus is pushed by his controlling mother Volumnia (Redgrave) to enter the Senate, he is loath to ingratiate himself with the masses whose votes he needs in order to secure a Senate seat.
When the public refuse to support him, Coriolanus’s anger prompts a riot which culminates in his expulsion from Rome.
The banished hero then allies himself with his sworn enemy Tullus Aufidius (Butler) to take his revenge on the city.
Coriolanus is released 20th January
