Kit Harington may be back as Jon Snow in the biggest TV show on the planet, but he will also be returning to the big screen this summer.
Yes, the British actor is set to tackle his first major film lead role in action/drama flick Pompeii.
Pompeii is a summer movie that has gone a little bit under the radar; which is a surprise as Paul W.S. Anderson is back in the director's chair.
Anderson is no stranger to this genre of film, as he brought us Resident Evil, Death Race, and AVP: Alien vs. Predator over the years.
However, this is his first directorial outing since Resident Evil: retribution back in 2012.
Harington has shot to fame on Game of Thrones, and this year he has a whole host of film projects in the pipeline.
He will take on the central role of Milo, and is surrounded by an all-star cast: Emily Browning, Carrie-Anne Moss, Kiefer Sutherland, Jared Harris and Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje are all also on board.
Set against the backdrop of the devastating eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 A.D., Pompeii 3D is the epic story of Milo (Harington), a young slave-turned-gladiator who must fight to save Cassia (Browning), the woman he loves, from the clutches of a corrupt Roman senator (Sutherland) before the city is destroyed.
Pompeii is the only period set blockbuster film of the summer, and is set to be totally different to anything else we are going to see over the coming weeks.
2014 is going to be an interesting transition for Harington as he tries to establish himself further as a film actor. Could this be the film that does that? I guess we will have to wait and see.
Pompeii is released 30th April.
