The release of Pacific Rim creeps ever closer and it is set to be one of the must see sci-fi films of the summer.
It is always exciting to see Guillermo Del Toro in the director's chair as he is one of the most visual filmmakers in Hollywood at the moment.
And Pacific Rim looks set to follow in that tradition as it looks set to be a visually stunning film - just check out the new trailer:
2013 has already been a wonderful year for science fiction and there are a whole host of exciting projects to come over the summer and into the autumn.
Del Toro is not only in the director's chair for this film but he has also teamed up with Travis Beacham to pen the screenplay.
Beacham has penned screenplays such as Clash of the Titans and Dog Days of Summer in recent years.
Most of us know Charlie Hunnam from Sons of Anarchy but the actor is really making a big screen push this year.
He will take on the central role of Raleigh Becket in the film and he is on the verge of being a major star.
Hunnam is joined on the cast list by Idris Elba, Charlie Day, Ron Perlman and Rinko Kikuchi.
When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity’s resources for years on end.
To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge.
But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes, a washed up former pilot (Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Kikuchi), who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.
It is always exciting to see a Del Toro movie on the horizon and it seems that we are going to be seeing plenty of this director over the next couple of years.
