I have to say, 2014 has been a really poor year for the horror genre; I think I am yet to see a really good movie that has sent shivers down my spine.
It may be Halloween weekend, but I think that Ouija is definitely one that is to be avoided if you are looking for something creepy to watch on the big screen.
Ouija follows a group of friends who must confront their most terrifying fears when they awaken the dark powers of an ancient spirit board.
I wasn't expecting all that much when I sat down to watch Ouija, so I was in no way disappointed by the film that I had to endure.
Of course, you know exactly where a movie like this is going to go and the director and writers really don't offer any surprises to take the movie in an unexpected and fresh direction.
The pacing is so desperately slow and White goes for cheap 'scares' rather than trying to craft a great horror movie that gets under your skin and makes you shiver.
Sadly, the cheap 'scares' won't even raise your heartbeat let alone have you jumping out of your seat - and what is a horror movie without scares?
The actors to the best with what they have, but their characters are as deep as puddles, and there is virtually no character development to get the audience really invested in their fate.
Throw in some truly horrific dialogue, and you have a movie that you will have had enough off after just twenty minutes.
I don't know about you, but I find Ouija boards incredibly creepy, and this could have been a terrifying premise for a horror film.
Sadly, this is just another horror plot that has gone to waste - it is just so uneventful and bland that you will leave the cinema feeling very very disappointed.
Ouija is out now.
