Only God Forgives

Only God Forgives

Only God Forgives is one of the films that we are most looking forward this summer here at FemaleFirst as Ryan Gosling reunites with director Nicolas Winding Refn.

If you haven't seen their first film together, Drive then you really should check it out as it a masterpiece.

And we are hoping for more of the same with Only God Forgives - however it is a movie that has split the critics since it was screened at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year.

But we have the brand new, and rather exciting, UK trailer for you to take a look at:

Ryan Gosling is already having a terrific year with the critical success of The Place Beyond The Pines under his belt.

This is set to be another quite dark role for the actor and director Refn always seems to bring this side out of the actor.

Speaking of Refn we haven't seen him in the director's chair since he helmed Drive, and it really is great to see him back.

His writing skills are also on show as Refn has also penned this dark and rather violent screenplay.

There is not just Gosling to watch out for on the cast list as Kristen Scott Thomas, Vithaya Pansringarm and Ratha Phongam are also on board.

Bangkok. Julian (Gosling) runs a Thai boxing club as a front for a drugs operation. He has everything he wants for and is respected in the criminal underworld though, deep inside, he feels empty.

When Julian's brother murders a prostitute the police call on retired cop Chang - the Angel of Vengeance (Vithaya Pansringarm). Chang allows the father to kill his daughter's murderer, then 'restores order' by chopping off the man's right hand. Julian's mother Jenna (Scott Thomas) - the head of a powerful criminal organization - arrives in Bangkok to collect her son's body. She dispatches Julian to find his killers and 'raise hell'.

Increasingly obsessed with the Angel of Vengeance, Julian challenges him to a boxing match, hoping that by defeating him he might find spiritual release but Chang triumphs.

A furious Jenna plots revenge and the stage is set for a bloody journey through betrayal and vengeance towards a final confrontation and the possibility of redemption.

So if you are looking for a movie that is a little dark and will have you on the edge of your seat then Only God Forgives could well be the movie for you.

Only God Forgives is released 2nd August.
