Noah Baumbach has enjoyed a directing career that has spanned almost twenty years, and he is back this week with Frances Ha.
The movie sees him reunite with Greta Gerwig; she leads the cast, but they have also penned the screenplay together.
Kicking and Screaming saw Baumbach make his directorial debut back in 1995, a screenplay that he also wrote.
The movie was a bout a group of college graduates that refuse to move on with their lives. Eric Stoltz, Olivia d'Abo and Parker Posey were all on board.
The movie premiered at the New York Film Festival, and Baumbach was tipped as a filmmaker to watch out for.
Highball and Mr. Jealousy were next, before he made The Squid and the Whale; the film which was the major breakthrough for him.
The Squid and the Whale was a semi-autobigraphical film that followed two boys who are dealing with their parent's divorce.
The film was met with critical acclaim and enjoyed huge success on the festival circuit; it won awards for best dramatic direction and screen-writing at Sundance Film Festival.
Baumbach went on to receive a Best OriginsL Screenplay Oscar nomination, while the film also was nominated for three Golden Globe and six Independent Spirit Awards.
Margot at the Wedding and Greenberg both followed in 2007 and 2010; the latter seeing him team up with Greta Gerwig.
Greenberg also starred Ben Stiller, and followed a man who was trying to decide what he wanted to do with his life.
It was another well received movie for the director, and went on to be nominated for Best Film at the Berlin International Film Festival.
However, it has not just been about writing and directing his own projects as Baumbach has penned a whole host of screenplays over the years.
He has been behind the likes of The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, Fantastic Mr. Fox and Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted.
Baumbach is back in the director's chair this week with Frances Ha, his first movie outing since Greenberg.
Frances (Gerwig) lives in New York, but she doesn't really have an apartment. Frances is an apprentice for a dance company, but she's not really a dancer.
Frances has a best friend named Sophie, but they aren't really speaking anymore. Frances throws herself headlong into her dreams, even as their possible reality dwindles.
The movie has already been met well by the critics and has enjoyed a good run on the festival circuit over the last twelve months.
Baumbach also has a trio of projects in the pipeline; two untitled movies as well as While We're Young. The latter will see him reunite with Ben Stiller.
