Nicola Peltz has enjoyed a hugely successful 2014, with Transformers: Age of Extinction, which it the big screen this summer.
Peltz was one of the new faces on the cast list for the fourth instalment of Michael Bay's popular blockbuster franchise. It went on to be the highest grossing movie of the year so far, taking over $1 billion at the global box office.
Transformers: Age of Extinction has just been released to download - it's available on DVD & Blu-Ray later this month - and the actress talked about the movie and her role.
- This movie has a lot of action. How did you prepare for those scenes?
They sent us to boot camp in Los Angeles. And I am happy for it. It really was needed. I had to be in good running shape for this film.
- And there are plenty of scenes where you are running across the screen - in high heels! What was that like?
Yes, that was tricky. It’s a whole new sport in itself. I had to get ready for that. And the funny thing is, Michael (Bay) did not tell us when things would blow up around us. He wanted the real expression of fear in our faces. It was pretty amazing.
- Who do you play in this movie? And what is her story?
I play Tessa, Mark Wahlberg’s daughter. And I love the father-daughter relationship in this film. It’s important to me because I am really close to my own dad.
Tessa is dating Shane (Jack Reynor), and she is keeping it as a secret from her dad because he’s so protective. I understand that element as well, I have six brothers.
Tessa’s dad doesn’t allow her to date, so she does it secretly. She is going racing with Shane and is just having fun. It’s a normal family in the beginning and then they are put in this insanity.
- You get to work with Mark Wahlberg and Stanley Tucci. That must have been very special for you. How was it sharing screen time with those two superstars?
Stanley is so talented, and so much fun to work with. And Mark is almost like a dad to me. I am so impressed with how professional Mark is. He and Stanley kept adding lines, and it just added a lot of fun. Mark is so much fun.
He is one of the hardest working guys I have ever met. Not only does he know his lines, he knew my lines as well. He told me he reads the whole script every night.
- Did you feel you were the new kid on the block coming into this franchise?
You know, it’s funny, but I never did. I felt like I was part of the family immediately. Everybody was part of the team right away. We were all there to make the best movie possible. It was a real team effort.
- What was it like working with Michael Bay? And is it true what they say about him, he pushes you to the limit?
He’s an incredibly intelligent guy. I felt that from the beginning. I mean this is a film with a very human dynamic. It starts off as an everyday man story, and for Michael to take that and expand it into such a spectacle, that was pretty incredible.
Well, he does. He expects a very professional attitude and a lot of courage. You have to have courage if you shoot with Michael Bay.
Chances are things will blow up around you, and you will have to move fast. And that’s exactly what happened. But I do believe that’s exactly the ingredients you need to make a movie like this. People love it because it’s so well done.
- You said earlier that you have six brothers. What was it like when you told them that you will be part of the Transformers franchise?
Oh, they were over the moon. And so was my sister. Everybody in my family has been a huge fan of this franchise.
And it’s especially cool that my brothers were super nice to me, they all wanted tickets for the premiere (laughs).
