Jake Gyllenhaal is one our favourites here at FemaleFirst and he steps into the ring this summer with new boxing movies Southpaw.
Gyllenhaal has already given us some terrific performances during his career and Southpaw looks set to be another knockout as he teams up with director Antoine Fuqua for the very first time.
Southpaw is a boxing movie come family drama as Fuqua returns to the director's chair for the first time since The Equalizer last September.
Southpaw is a summer movies that I have been looking forward to for some time and is set to be a gritty drama that is not to be missed.
A brand new trailer for the film has arrived and we have it for you to take a look at:
Gyllenhaal takes on the central role of boxer Billy Hope and is joined on the cast list by Rachel McAdams, Naomie Harris, 50 Cent, Rita Ora, Clare Foley, and Oscar winner Forest Whitaker.
Southpaw follows the story of Billy 'The Great' Hope, Junior Middleweight Boxing Champion of the World. When tragedy strikes and he loses it all, Billy enters the battle of his life as he struggles to become a contender once again and win back those he loves.
We have been treated to some great boxing dramas over the years and they have delivered some of cinemas most iconic characters and moments. Southpaw is set to be a movie that breathes new life into this genre and I cannot wait to see Gyllenhaal and director Fuqua in action.
Southpaw is released 24th July.
