Tom Hanks has a couple of super exciting projects in the pipeline over the next six months or so, and Captain Phillips is one of them.
The movie sees Hanks team up with director Paul Greengrass for the first time in what is set to be one of the biopic movies not to miss this autumn.
The awards excitement is brewing around Captain Phillips and the movie is also set to open the 57th BFI London Film Festival in October.
A brand new trailer has been released for the movie and we have it for you to take a look at:
Tom Hanks already has two Best Actor Oscars to his name; but it was for Forest Gump that he last tasted Oscar success, could 2014 be his year once again?
Hanks is set to take on the role of Captain Richard Phillips in the movie that is based on the hijacking of his ship in 2009 by Somali pirates.
Catherine Keener, Barkhad Adbi, Barkhad Addirahman, and Faysal Ahmed make up the cast list for Paul Greengrass’ latest picture.
Greengrass has been behind some fantastic films in recent years such as The Bourne Ultimatum and United 93, and it is great to see him back in the director’s chair.
Captain Phillips will be the first film for Greengrass since he helmed Green Zone back at the beginning of 2010.
Captain Phillips is a multi-layered examination of the 2009 hijacking of the U.S. container ship Maersk Alabama by a crew of Somali pirates. It is – through Greengrass' distinctive lens – simultaneously a pulse-pounding thriller and a complex portrait of the myriad effects of globalization.
The film focuses on the relationship between the Alabama's commanding officer, Captain Richard Phillips (Hanks), and his Somali counterpart, Muse (Abdi).
Set on an incontrovertible collision course off the coast of Somalia, both men will find themselves paying the human toll for economic forces outside of their control.
As we get into September the Oscar race will kick off once again, and don’t be surprised it we see Captain Phillips in the running when the Academy Awards roll around again.
Captain Phillips is released 18th October.
