Zack Snyder has called Russell Crowe’s performance as Jor-El as a complete contrast to that of Marlon Brando.
The Oscar winner has taken over the role of Jor-El as the franchise is rebooted this summer in the form of Man of Steel.
And while actors and their performances are inevitably going to be compared to movies of the past Snyder says that Crowe delivers a different interpretation than Brando.
Speaking to Empire the director said: "I feel that Russell Crowe is a massive contrast from Brando.
"He is able to bring a gravity to the role. You need a lack of fear to make him work."
Snyder is in the director's chair for Man of Steel as and writer David S. Goyer put their stamp on this well known story.
Crowe is part of an all star line up that includes Henry Cavill, Michael Shannon, Amy Adams and Kevin Costner.
While Man of Steel has yet to be released there has already been talks of a sequel.
Man of Steel is released 14th June
