'Star Trek 3' is likely to start filming next year.
Zachary Quinto - who plays Spock in the sci-fi franchise - has revealed producers are planning to start work on the third instalment as soon as possible.
Speaking at the 2013 Galway Film Fleadh, he told BuzzHub: "'Star Trek 3' should be filming, I suppose, next year. It's going to be made a lot quicker than the last one. That's the plan, although nothing is confirmed yet."
While Quinto wouldn't confirm the return of filmmaker J.J. Abrams, he said it was a possibility.
The rushed nature of filming makes it seem unlikely the director will return since he is obligated to begin work on 'Star Wars Episode VII' in 2014 for a 2015 release date.
The films' core cast - including Chris Pine, Zoe Saldana and Simon Pegg - have all confirmed they are on board for a third and possibly final instalment.
However, when Quinto was asked whether he wanted to appear in Disney's rebooted 'Star Wars' franchise, he declined to answer with no explanation.
The 36-year-old star previously joked he wanted to play a cuddly spear-wielding Ewok in the new films because he was a fan of the teddy bear-like warriors in George Lucas' original franchise.
