Woody Allen has revealed that he hates blockbusters, calling them ‘childish products’.
Allen is back in the director’s chair this weekend with the critically acclaimed Blue Jasmine; a movie that he has written as well as directs.
And while we continue to see blockbuster movies dominate the box office and rake in the cash, Allen has no interest in directing one of those projects.
When asked what he thought of those types of movies the director told Madame Figaro magazine: "Mediocrity. Moreover, that kind of film often circulates huge prejudices.
“It's a completely different job to mine, based on commercial profits. I don't watch them, I ignore them, they don't interest me. They're childish products."
And while Allen is not making movies that gross millions of dollars at the box office, he is making films that are winning over the critics.
Blue Jasmine is being met with rave reviews and is already being tipped as a major Oscar contender; particularly the central performance from Cate Blanchett.
Allen picked up a Best Original Screenplay Oscar for Midnight In Paris, and he could well find himself in the mix again early next year.
Blue Jasmine is out now.
