Willem Dafoe has called the The Amazing Spider Man a 'cynical approach to making money'.
Dafoe took on the role of Norman Osborn aka Green Goblin in the first three Spider Man movies from 2002 to 2007.
But the franchise was rebooted last year with Andrew Garfield taking over the role of Spider Man and Marc Webb in the director's chair.
Speaking to Total Film the actor said: "I saw a trailer for the first 'Spider-Man' reboot and I thought, 'This is crazy! It's not shot for shot, but it's the same story.' I thought, 'This is sort of a cynical approach to making money!'"
Dafoe went on to say there was a 'pure' element to the original movies that he made with Tobey Maguire and director Sam Raimi.
"I like 'Spider-Man', the first one that I was involved in, because although you can argue all sorts of things, from my perspective it was very pure. It really was.
"The way Sam Raimi approached it, it was pure in its intentions and I think he captured, particularly, Tobey at that particular moment. This real, genuine innocence; it wasn't indicated."
The Amazing Spider Man 2 will be hitting the big screen next year and will see Garfield return to the title role.
