Smith is set to lead a fantastic ensemble cast this August as Suicide Squad hit the big screen, which will see the actor team up with director David Ayer for the first time.

And Deadshot is a very different role for the Oscar-nominated actor and he admits that he liked not having to carry the 'moral spine' of the story.

Speaking to EW about the film and the role, the actor said; "I had never played a character that legitimately didn't give a f***. It's very freeing not having to carry the moral spine of the movie. I couldn't find a model to understand what would make someone comfortable killing another person for money. David walked me through that.

"He found a book for me (The Anatomy of Motive by John Douglas), and I worked through getting into the mind of serial killers. Once I accepted the [notion the author puts forth] that it feels good, that really exploded the idea in my mind of Deadshot."

Suicide Squad sees Smith reunite with actress Margot Robbie, with whom he worked on Focus. Joel Kinnaman, Viola Davis, Jared Leto, Cara Delevingne, and Joel Courtney are also on board.

Suicide Squad is the first time that we have seen Smith on the big screen since the success of Concussion at the beginning of the year. It is always good to see him back on the big screen.

The actor has also finished work on Collateral Beauty, which sees him star alongside Kate Winslet, Keira Knightley, Edward Norton, and Helen Mirren.

Another Bad Boys movie is also in the pipeline, which will see Smith reprise the role of Detective Mike Lowrey.

Suicide Squad is released 5th August.
