Will Poulter says it was great to be sitting next to his mum when it was revealed he had won the EE Rising Star Award.
Poulter saw off the competition from Dane DeHaan, George Mackay, Lea Seydoux and Lupita Nyong’o to scoop the only Bafta that is voted for by the general public.
Speaking in his post-win press conference, Poulter revealed that he shared a little joke with mum when it had been announced he had won.
“My mum said ‘well done fatty’ - which is a joke we have. We call each other ‘fatty’ and that comes from watching a lot of Little Britain when I was younger.
“That is what she said, and it was the best things she could have said. It was great to be able to have been sitting next to her at that moment.”
Poulter has roles such as Son of Rambow, Wild Bill and last year’s comedy We’re The Millers under his belt, and yet the win still came a shock to the twenty one year old.
“It is quite a shock, I have to say. I am very embarrassed that I blubbed on stage - I told myself that I wouldn’t do that, but I did. I am very very grateful to have received this, it is just amazing.”
And we are going to be seeing a lot of more of Poulter on the big screen over the next year, as he has already completed work on Plastic, Kids in Love and The Maze Runner.
The Maze Runner is a big screen adaptation of the young adult novel of the same name by James Dashner, directed by Wes Ball.
And while the actor is busy, he wasn’t able to say if a sequel to the very successful We’re The Millers would be going ahead.
