Based on the book of the same name by Aravind Adiga and written for screen by Ramin Bahrani, who also serves as director on the flick, comes Netflix original film The White Tiger, starring Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Adarsh Gourav and Rajkummar Rao.
Gourav takes on the role of Balram Halwai in the movie, who narrates his epic and darkly comedic rise from poor villager to successful entrepreneur in modern India.
Doing whatever it takes to earn a living, he finds himself working as a driver for elites Ashok (Rao) and Pinky (Chopra Jonas) following their return from America.
Though Balram has spent many years learning how to be a servant to those in wealthier and more influential positions, he soon realises he'll have to go against his rich masters if he's to save his own skin.
Of course, with his bosses now his adversaries, they're in a much better position to trap him and walk away thanks to their power.
On the verge of losing everything, Balram must rebel against a rigged and unequal system to become a new type of master; one he can be proud of.
Aaron Wan, Vedant Sinha, Perrie Kapernaros and Nalneesh Neel all also star.
Speaking ahead of release about the story, Chopra Jonas explained to Entertainment Weekly: "[The book] really, really affected me.
"[My character] comes in with this completely different perspective of life as it is in a developing country.
"That was really interesting for me to play, considering I'm an Indian. In my work in the US, I haven't done a dramatic part like that. So that was very exciting to me."
Her co-star Bahrani added: "Wealth inequality, the power and abuses of the rich, ideas of caste, [and] we all understand now more than ever how fragile our healthcare system is...
"It's really about a man who just wants to be free, free to pursue the totality of his life.
"I think that's something most of us understand now - a rigged system, chances that are denied, and the lengths we will go to make it in this world."
Chopra Jones serves as an executive producer on the film, alongside Ken Kamins, Paul Ritchie, Prem Akkaraju, Ava DuVernay and Sarah Bremnar. Mukul Deora p.g.a. and Ramin Bahrani p.g.a. produce.
Originally published back in 2008, the original White Tiger novel went on to win the 40th Man Booker Prize in the same year, becoming an instant success and globally-recognised work.
Despite being over a decade old, the political satire woven throughout the book is something that still likely hits home with all those who read it. Classism still exists in countries all across the world, and The White Tiger lays out all of that bare, using humour to make intricate and vital points about our democracy.
Fans will hope that the Netflix original will be able to strike all of the same chords. With such a fantastic cast and talented crew behind-the-scenes, all of the ingredients are in place; now it's just about the execution.
The White Tiger is expected to come to Netflix in the near future. No official release date has yet been announced, but we'll keep you updated with all of the latest news.
