Wes Bentley has revealed that he was a big fan of the original Pete's Dragon and was keen to work with director David Lowery on the remake.
Bentley makes up the all-star cast of the new Pete's Dragon movie as he works alongside Lowery for the first time.
As well as wanting to work with the Ain't Them Bodies Saints director, Bentley says that he wanted to make a film that his children could see.
Speaking to Collider about the film, the actor said "Yeah, I saw the original and it was huge for me and my brothers, as a kid. We watched it multiple times. But there were other elements, too. David Lowery was someone I wanted to work with. I met with him and we clicked, and I love his work.
"I was also hoping to do a film that my young children could see while they were still young. And I was looking for a character like this, that was a little lighter, more genuine and honest person than the ones I normally have gotten to play, up until this point."
The movie is a remake of the 1977 film of the same name and is the latest offering from Disney.
Bentley is joined on the cast list by Bryce Dallas Howard, Robert Redford, Oakes Fegley, Karl Urban, and Oona Laurence.
Pete's Dragon is the first time that we have seen Bentley on the big screen since We Are Your Friends last year. He has also completed work on Broken Vows, which sees him star alongside Jaimie Alexander and Cam Gigandet.
We also saw the actor return to the small screen this year in American Horror Story: Hotel.
