Wes Ball

Wes Ball says he ‘lucked out’ with the quality of the actors he was able to put together of The Maze Runner.

Ball is set to make his directorial debut with the big screen adaptation of the James Dashner novel of the same name: which is set for release at the end of the year.

Dylan O’Brien, Will Poulter, Black Cooper, Thomas Brodie-Sangster, Kaya Scodelario and Ki Hong Lee are some of the names that are on board, and the director was impressed by how prepared they were for their roles.

Speaking to Collider, the director said: I lucked out and I mean I totally lucked out. These guys are total pros, they come in knowing their lines. They know their thing. They’ve got all of these ideas.

“My job is to kind of nudge them. Who said it where like “90% of the job is casting,” so all I do is try to come to set and focus on getting all the best shots to cover the story, that’s really it. So I felt very fortunate in that sense.”

The Maze Runner is the latest young adult novel to be adapted for the big screen, and the screenplay has been penned by Noah Oppenheim.

The Maze Runner follows Thomas, who finds himself in a community of boys after his memory has been erased.

He soon discovers that they are trapped in a maze and realises he will have to join forces with his fellow 'runners' if he is going to escape.

The Maze Runner is released 10th October
