Wes Ball will be returning to the director's chair for the third instalment of the Maze Runner franchise.
The Maze Runner series is an adaptation of the James Dashner young adult novels and has seen Ball at the helm from the very beginning.
Ball made his feature film directorial debut with The Maze Runner and is currently enjoying more success with second film The Scorch Trials.
Now Variety has reported that Ball is sticking with the franchise to bring The Death Cure to the big screen - it is almost unheard of that one director stays with a franchise from beginning to end.
Official news that Ball is on board The Death Cure comes just a week after the filmmaker said that he was going to stay. Talking to Variety on the red carpet in New York, Ball said: "Ultimately our goal is to create an awesome three-movie trilogy. Not many people have done that, and now I have the opportunity to do that.
"I am directing the third film and we've already been busy preparing and working on the final conclusion of this saga."
The Scorch Trials has enjoyed success at the UK box office at the weekend, opening at number two behind Tom Hardy's gangster movie Legend. The film sees Dylan O'Brien, Kaya Scodelario and Thomas Brodie-Sangster return to the franchise, while Aiden Gillen, Rosa Salazar, and Nathalie Emmanuel are some of the big new additions to the cast list.
The Maze Runner went on to gross over $345 million at the global box office by the end of its theatrical run last year - topping the U.S. box office in the process.
Filming is set to get underway on The Death Cure in December. The Maze Runner: The Death Cure will be released 27th January 2017.
