Tom Hiddleston says that the popularity of Loki has been an ‘amazing surprise’ and something that he never expected.
The actor returns to the role this week in Thor: The Dark World in what will be the third time he has played the role of after the successes of Thor and Avengers Assemble.
The character of Loki has really propelled the British actor to global stardom and has become one of the most popular Marvel characters.
Speaking to Nuts magazine the actor said:
"Loki and Thor are like yin and yang, the sun and the moon.
"The immense popularity of the character has been an amazing surprise. I never expected it in my wildest dreams.
"It's fascinating to play the god of mischief. And he's such a broken character - bitter, jealous, grief stricken, angry, lonely and proud.
"The cocktail of his psychological damage and his playfulness makes him really interesting to portray."
Thor: The Dark World is the second stand alone Thor film, it is also the first time we have seen Hiddleston and Chris Hemsworth take on the roles of Loki and Thor since Avengers last summer.
Thor: The Dark World is the second movie in Marvel’s Phase Two of films: Captain America: The Winter Solider, Guardians of the Galaxy and The Avengers: Age of Ultron will follow over the next couple of years.
As for Hiddleston, he will be back on the big screen next year in Only Lovers Left Alive and the new Muppets movie. He is also set to begin work on Guillermo Del Toro’s next project Crimson Peak.
