It’s been a long time coming, but Tom Hardy and Marvel fans have this week finally got their first glimpse of the actor in the terrifying role of Venom. Though we had previously seen Hardy as investigative reporter Eddie Brock in a first look trailer, this is the very first time we’ve seen him as the often misunderstood “lethal protector”. You can check out the new teaser below, along with a fantastic new poster for the Venom movie:

Directed by Ruben Fleischer, Hardy stars alongside a brilliant cast made up of Michelle Williams, Riz Ahmed, Scott Haze, and Reid Scott to name just a handful. Scott Rosenberg, Kelly Marcel, and Jeff Pinkner wrote the script for the film, with Avi Arad, Matt Tolmach, and Amy Pascal all serving as producers on the movie.

Though Venom and Eddie Brock are of course characters from the world of Marvel Comics, they’re expected to exist in a completely separate universe to that of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which houses the Avengers, Spider-Man and other popular superheroes.

Venom will be the film that kick-starts the new Sony Marvel Universe, but there are already plans for more to come in the future. Silver & Black is the one that’s set to follow Venom with a 2019 release, following the adventures of Spider-Man characters Black Cat and Silver Sable, and the challenges they face as they fight against the world’s Big Bads.

Nightwatch has also been rumoured to be a part of the universe, based on the titular hero of the same name, whilst there were also rumblings about a Morbius the Living Vampire movie. Whether or not those two get off the ground however remains to be seen.

For now, we’ve got our sights firmly set on Venom, and it looks set to be an incredibly entertaining affair! Bring it on…

Venom comes to cinemas across the UK on October 5, 2018.
