The day has come! The incredible first official trailer for Sony Pictures’ upcoming Marvel movie Venom has been released, with Tom Hardy tackling the titular role. You can check it out, as well as a stunning new poster for the film below:
“Everyone’s got their thing,” (what we assume to be) Hardy’s character says in the trailer. “Maybe it’s a break-up, a death, an accident. Whatever it is, you used to be one thing. Now, you’re something else.”
The description is one perfect for the comic book character Hardy is portraying, Eddie Brock. A man who comes into contact with an alien Symbiote, he quickly becomes an antagonist for Spider-Man and an individual capable of unleashing terror upon the world. Venom is certainly not someone you’d want to mess with.
Directed by Ruben Fleischer, the film also stars the likes of Michelle Williams, Riz Ahmed, Scott Haze and Reid Scott, with rumours suggesting that a crossover with the Marvel Cinematic Universe could happen, and that Tom Holland’s portrayal of Peter Parker, aka Spider-Man will be making an appearance.
Though not too much about the plot the film will follow is given away by the first teaser, it’s fair to say that chaos, destruction and a lot of anger will come together to provide one of the grittiest and most real Marvel movies to-date.
Venom is a character that’s appeared in Marvel movies of the past, and towards the end of the 2014 film The Amazing Spider-Man 2, the Symbiote that causes Brock to become the monster was spotted in the Oscorp building.
Hardy’s portrayal of the character isn’t expected to tie directly into the Amazing Spider-Man series however, as the MCU’s portrayal of Spider-Man is now expected to be the one that takes precedence in this film. It’s all a little confusing, but should become clearer when the movie hits theatres later this year!
Venom comes to cinemas across the UK on October 5, 2018 via Sony Pictures.
