Hardy will take over the role of Max Rockatansky for the first time as Mad Max is back on the big screen - this is the first film in this franchise since Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome in 1985.

The film see George Miller back in the director's chair and the actor says that it is going to be a 'massive spectacle' of a film.

Speaking to Collider on the red carpet, Hardy said: "I have see the film in various stages of development. The last time I saw it I was completely blown away by it and it keeps on moving exponentially from the last time that I saw it.

"It is huge, it is a massive spectacle, and it is a massive live action event. Basically, it is like the second half of Road Warrior but on steroids for two and a half hours. It is full on."

Mad Max: Fury Road will mark the first time that Hardy has teamed up with Miller, while Charlize Theron, Nicholas Hoult, Zoe Kravitz, and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley are all also on board.

As for Hardy, he is still filming The Revenant with director Alejandro González Iñárritu and Leonardo DiCaprio - it is already one of the most anticipated films of 2016.

The actor will also be back on the big screen in London Road and Legend, for which received the first teaser trailer yesterday. Legend will see Hardy play both Ron and Reggie Kray in a movie that sees them terrorise London in the 1950s and 1960.

Mad Max: Fury Road is released 14th May.
