Tim Burton reveals that he was drawn to the pictures of Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children, even before he read the book.

Burton is set to return to the director's chair this autumn with his first film since Big Eyes. The movie is based on the book of the same name by Ransom Riggs, which has been adapted for the big screen by Jane Goldman.

And while Burton reveals there were themes in the book that he loved, he had already been drawn to the story by the book's pictures.

Speaking to Collider, the filmmaker said: "Even before I read the book, I saw the pictures in the book and I realised... I collect photographs, not as much as Ransom does, but I do have a little collection. I have always been fascinated by the fact that when you look at certain photographs there's a mystery, creepiness, poetry; it tells a story without knowing everything about it. I think that he concocted a story based around these pictures and I thought it was a brilliant idea and I really liked it. Even before I read it, I was into it that way.

"When I did read it, I just thought 'it has all that thing about feeling that way, feeling strange, feeling peculiar, feeling like you are crazy, feeling like you don't fit into society. No matter how successful you get and how many friends you get later in life, if you get those feelings as a young person, it never leaves you. Again, that was something that the book captured."

The movie sees Burton reunite with Eva Green, who takes on the title role of Miss Peregrine. It is their first collaboration together since Dark Shadows.

The filmmaker has brought together an impressive cast as Asa Butterfield, Samuel L. Jackson, Allison Janney, Judi Dench, Chris O'Dowd, Ella Purnell, and Terence Stamp are just some of the names that are on board.

It is always exciting when a Burton movie is on the horizon, but we are going to have to wait a month before Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children hits the big screen.

Miss Peregrine's Home For Peculiar Children is released 30th September.
