The Untouchables is one of the many classics that came from the 1980s, but it is one with a high power of captivation. The film was, and is still highly regarded all these years later; and now, fans can witness the incredible story in 4K Ultra HD – for the first time ever.
The Untouchables, which originally released in June of 1987, follows the story of Al Capone (Robert De Niro), a mobster who, in the 1920s and 1930s continued to sell alcohol in the United States, despite the nationwide prohibition.
Federal agent, Eliot Ness (Kevin Costner), has been tasked to expose Capone’s illegal practices, and bring him to justice; this is, however, easier said than done.
The Untouchables celebrates its 35th anniversary this year (2022). The feature is, even after over three decades, a must-see masterpiece that combines exceptional filmmaking with incredible acting talent.
De Niro and Costner’s performances in particular have been praised for being unforgettable, fierce, and amazing depictions of the people they portrayed.
The feature won many awards, as did its actors. Sean Connery, who depicted Jimmy Malone, won his only Oscar for his role. The Untouchables was written by David Mamet, and won a Grammy for its captivating score, which was composed by Ennio Morricone.
The Untouchables’ 4K Ultra HD release includes over an hour of legacy content, including:
- The Script, The Cast
- Production Stories
- Re-Inventing the Genre
- The Classic
- Original Featurette: “The Men”
- Theatrical Trailer
Recently, The Godfather celebrated its 50th anniversary with an incredible remaster that made its way into cinemas. Classics like The Godfather and The Untouchables definitely deserve to be re-released in today’s cinemascope, so we can appreciate cinema as it used to be.
