The Secret Life of Pets has enjoyed a big opening weekend to take the top spot at the UK box office.
The Secret Life of Pets is by the team that brought us Despicable Me and is the latest hit for Illumination Entertainment.
The movie, which also ran preview screenings the weekend before it went on official release, took £9.5 million to hold off the challenge from Independence Day: Resurgence.
The top two was dominated by new entries this weekend as Independence Day: Resurgence had to settle for the second spot. The movie sees Roland Emmerich back in the director's chair and comes twenty years after the release and the success of the first.

The Conjuring slipped two places this week to number three while Me Before You was also down at four. The Nice Guys was the first of two films on the up, jumping a single place to round off the top five.
