BAFTA winner Naomi Ackie and BAFTA Rising Star Will Poulter team up with Johnny Flynn, in what looks to be one of the most surprising and memorable musical big screen features of all time, in The Score.

This genre-bending heist film is inspired by the traditional Hollywood gangster movies we all know and love, as well as the French New Wave.

Audiences will be introduced to two amateur criminals – Mike (Johnny Flynn) and Troy (Poulter) who are hoping that their next mission will see their lives changed forever. When one meets a woman that he never expected to walk into his life, however, things get a little more complicated than expected.

On their way to 'the score', the two stop at a roadside café to wait for a hand-over. It's there that Troy falls head over heels in love with the waitress, Gloria (Ackie), forcing him to confront his life choices and question exactly what he wants to do next.

With danger driving directly and literally right towards the group, will everybody make it out alive?

Songs written and performed by Flynn, along with other cast members as new recordings for the film, are set to make for one of the most refreshing watches of the year.

Making his directorial feature debut, writer and director Malachi Smyth is bringing The Score to UK cinemas on September 9th, 2022, courtesy of Republic Film Distribution.

The soundtrack is also set to be released by EMI, with details to follow at a later date.

Early reviews for The Score are mixed, but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t utterly intrigued by just how this film is going to be executed.

From the short teaser we’ve been given with the release of the new trailer, the songs sound memorable, catchy and delivered with the perfect tone.

Combining that with the amount of sheer British acting talent on screen should make for a film that fans of the musical genre will be happy to watch time and again.

I can’t wait to check it out!
