Jessica Chastain has described the central character of The Martian as a character that you can 'root' for.
The Martian, which is based on the novel of the same name by Andy Weir, is set to hit the big screen in November and see Matt Damon take on the central role of astronaut Mark Watney, who gets stranded on Mars when a space mission goes wrong.
Chastain stars in the film as Commander Melissa Lewis, and has compared Watney to stranded characters in Gravity and Castaway.
Speaking to Yahoo, the actress said: "The book is great, it created an amazing character who's such a problem solver. He has such a great sense of humour that you root for him. It has a similar character to other films we've loved, like Sandra Bullock in Gravity, like Tom Hanks in Castaway.
"It's a character that's lost at sea somewhere and is trying to find their way back home. I think we can all imagine being lost somewhere and trying to get back, we can all relate to that."
The Martian sees Chastain team up with director Ridley Scott, while Kristen Wiig, Jeff Daniels, Michael Pena, Kate Mara, and Chiwetel Ejiofor are just some of the other names on the cast list.
The movie sees Chastain return to the science fiction genre just a year after she enjoyed huge success with Inception by Christopher Nolan.
The Martian is just one of the movies that we are going to see Chastain in this autumn, as she will star alongside Mia Wasikowska and Tom Hiddleston in gothic horror Crimson Peak - a movie that is directed by Guillermo del Toro.
Chastain has been filming The Huntsman alongside Chris Hemsworth, Charlize Theron, and Emily Blunt.
The Martian is released 27th November.
