Of all of the autumn movies that are set to come our way over the next few months, The Martian is one that I am looking forward to the most.
The Martian marks the return of Ridley Scott to the director's chair as he once again turns his attention on the science fiction genre. The movie will also see Matt Damon in the central role as he teams up with Scott for the first time.
The Martian is based on the best-selling novel by Andy Weir and is set to be another great space adventure - following in the recent footsteps of Gravity and Interstellar.
I cannot wait to see what Scott and co deliver with this film, and the brand new - and rather action-packed - trailer has arrived:
As if Scott and Damon working on a project wasn't exciting enough, a stunning cast has been assembled for the film as Jessica Chastain, Kate Mara, Sebastian Stan, Kristen Wiig, Sean Bean, Michael Pena, Jeff Daniels, and Chiwetel Ejiofor are all on board. It really is one of the best ensemble casts of the autumn.
During a manned mission to Mars, Astronaut Mark Watney (Damon) is presumed dead after a fierce storm and left behind by his crew. But Watney has survived and finds himself stranded and alone on the hostile planet. With only meager supplies, Watney must draw upon his ingenuity, wit and spirit to subsist and find a way to signal to Earth that he is alive.
Millions of miles away, NASA and a team of international scientists work tirelessly to bring 'the Martian' home, while his crewmates concurrently plot a daring, if not impossible, rescue mission. As these stories of incredible bravery unfold, the world comes together to root for Watney's safe return.
The Martian is released 30th September.
