Earlier this month (April, 2022), Paramount Pictures released a new behind-the-scenes clip from upcoming action-comedy movie, The Lost City, starring Sandra Bullock (Bird Box) and Channing Tatum (The Jump Street franchise).
While Bullock and Tatum may be the heroes of the feature, Harry Potter actor Daniel Radcliffe has stepped into the role of the film’s villain, Fairfax, who wishes to find legendary riches before anyone else.
The Lost City follows Loretta Sage (Bullock), a reclusive writer on a book tour to promote her latest story. Loretta is accompanied by Alan, the model who portrays her books’ main hero, Dash, on the covers of her novels.
However, on the tour, Loretta is kidnapped by Fairfax, who tells her to take him to the location of the ancient lost city’s treasure from her books.
Alan, wanting to prove that he is more than a (very) pretty face, goes after Loretta, only to realise that he might not actually be as heroic as he thinks he is.
Loretta and Alan must brave the dense jungle around them, getting into a myriad of ridiculous situations; including escaping in a wheelbarrow and picking leeches off Alan’s body.
The Lost City seems to be a brilliant and hilarious movie, with a stellar cast and a great creative team. The recently-released behind-the-scenes video, titled Gentlemen Bad Guy, details Radcliffe’s character, and sees the cast explain why Fairfax is such a great villain.
Radcliffe appears to love his character, and states that “he’s a bad guy, but there’s a lot of humour to him”, which is a brilliant combination when done right.
“The brilliance of our villain,” states Bullock, “is that he has to be the most affable, seductive, non-threatening villain”; and by the looks of the trailers, Radcliffe seems to have nailed this.
Bullock continues to praise Radcliffe’s performance, and claims his "transformation to the evil part of Fairfax is brilliant.”
Tatum also shared some kind words about his fellow actor, stating that Radcliffe is “hilarious, engaging, and just an insanely talented actor”, which is more than a fair compliment, it seems.
See Bullock, Tatum and Radcliffe in The Lost City on April 13th, 2022.
I can’t wait to watch The Lost City, mainly due to its awesome cast.
Admittedly, I haven’t seen Radcliffe in too many movies, so I’m definitely looking forward to seeing him in this film, especially as a humorous villain.
He seems to be cast perfectly for Fairfax, as he has a non-threatening yet somewhat demanding presence, which fits perfectly with Bullock and Tatum’s characters, as well as the narrative.
