Sean Penn is perhaps not known for his action hero roles during his career... that is about to change as he is set to kick some ass in latest film The Gunman.
We have just over a week to go before The Gunman hits the big screen and it sees Penn take on his first major leading role since This Must Be The Place back in 2012 and this is a role that we haven't seen Penn really tackle before.
Penn is very much following in the footsteps of Liam Neeson as he has teamed up with Taken director Pierre Morel for the first time; The Gunman sees Morel back in the director's chair for the first time since From Paris with Love.
A brand new clip for the film has been released and it shows Penn handing out a beating - the first of many he will be handing out in this film:
However, The Gunman is not all about Penn as a terrific cast list has been assembled - Javier Bardem, Idris Elba, Ray Winstone, Mark Rylance, and Jasmine Trinca are some of the other great names on board. The Gunman stars Oscar-winner Sean Penn as a former military operative dragged into a deadly cat and mouse game.
I really have been a huge fan of Penn over the years and he has delivered some terrific performances during his career - Mystic River, 21 Grams, and Thin Red Line are some of the standout films. I can't wait to see Penn tackle the action hero role for the first time and The Gunman looks like it is going to be a truly high-octane ride.
The Gunman is released 20th March.
