Illumination and Universal Pictures have come together once more for an eighth fully animated feature, this time tackling the story of The Grinch, with a picture based on Dr. Seuss’ famous holiday classic. With Benedict Cumberbatch leading the film and lending his vocal talents to the titular character, the film looks to be both funny and compelling, teaching audiences about the true spirit of Christmas and the power of optimism. This week, a brand new poster as well as the first trailer for the film have been released, both of which you can check out below:
The Grinch is a creature who lives a solitary life inside a cave with only his loyal dog Max for company. An avid inventor, he’s someone who does enough to get by, but will only visit his Who-ville neighbours when he runs out of food.
Every Christmas, the Grinch’s peace and quiet is disrupted with bright, bold, and loud celebrations, and so when the Whos of Who-ville declare they’ll be making Christmas three times bigger than ever before, the Grinch decides he must steal the holiday event if he’s to get by. Posing as Santa Claus on Christmas Eve is his plan, with Max serving as his misfit reindeer and pulling his sleigh.
All of this goes on whilst young Cindy-Lou of Who-ville is overflowing with holiday cheer, before coming up with her own plan to capture Santa Claus as he does his rounds, all just so she and her friends can thank him for helping her overworked mother.
As the two plans come together, they threaten to collide, and only one thing’s for sure: it’s going to be a lot of fun to watch go down.
Directed by Yarrow Cheney and Scott Mosier, the screenplay for the film has been written by Michael LeSieur. When it comes to the cast, only Cumberbatch has been officially announced, but we expect some more names to come out in the coming weeks.
The Grinch comes to cinemas across the UK on November 9, 2018.
