The Russo Brothers - Anthony and Joe - are back in the director's chair for upcoming Netflix action thriller, The Gray Man.
Written by Joe Russo alongside Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, the movie is based on the book series of the same name by Mark Greaney.
Ryan Gosling stars as the titular Gray Man, Court Gentry aka Sierra Six and, faces off against a psychopathic adversary, his former colleague Lloyd Hansen played by Chris Evans, in a production collaboration between Netflix and AGBO.
Ana de Armas also stars, alongside Jessica Henwick, Wagner Moura, Dhanush, Billy Bob Thornton, Alfre Woodard, Regé-Jean Page, Julia Butters, Eme Ikwuakor and, Scott Haze.
Development on The Gray Man actually started all the way back in January 2011, when Brad Pitt was initially cast to star but, he left the project by October 2015. Discussions were then had with Charlize Theron, who was going to take on a gender-swapped version of the character but, those plans were also put on ice.
Now, The Gray Man has already made headlines for being the most expensive film ever made by Netflix, thanks to its eye-watering production budget of $200 million.
That money has been put to good use, if the new trailer is anything to go by. There’s lots of chaotic action coming our way, with this tale of espionage hoping to stand tall amongst the crowded genre.
If it can do so, we imagine a series may be spawned from its success. There are currently 11 books based on the character available, so there are certainly plenty of directions that the streaming service could go in, if they do decide to turn this into one of their most prominent franchises.
The Gray Man comes to select cinemas across the UK on July 15th, 2022, before making its debut on Netflix on July 22nd, 2022.
