The Equalizer

The Equalizer

The Equalizer has toppled The Maze Runner from the top of the U.S. box office, as it takes the #1 spot.

The Equalizer sees Denzel Washington return to the big screen as he reunites with director Antoine Fuqua for the first time since the success of Training Day.

The movie is another action role for the Oscar winning actor, and took $35 million in it's opening weekend.

The Equalizer comfortably saw off the challenge from The Maze Runner, which fell just a single place to two. It was revealed last week that work has already begun on the sequel.

The Boxtrolls was the second and final new entry inside the top ten this week, as it opened at number three. The Boxtrolls has already topped the UK box office and continues to perform well.

This Is Where I Leave You was down one at four, while there was no move for Dolphin Tale 2 at five.

Former #1 No Good Deed was down two this week at six, while A Walk Among The Tombstones was a five place faller at seven.

Guardians of the Galaxy is one of the biggest films of the year, but it dropped two places this week from six to eight.
