Based on Greg Sestero’s and Tom Bissell’s best-selling tell-all book about the creation of cult-classic film The Room comes The Disaster Artist, with James Franco serving as director. Transforming the real-life story of filmmaker and infamous Hollywood outsider Tommy Wiseau into a tale for the big screen, the movie looks set to be both funny and emotional, with a screenplay written by Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber.
This week, a brand new trailer for the flick has been unveiled, which you can check out below:
As well as directing, James Franco stars in the movie alongside his brother Dave Franco and their co-stars Seth Rogen, Alison Brie, Josh Hutcherson, Eliza Coupe, Zoey Deutch, Zac Efron and Tommy Wiseau himself.
Upon his debut, Wiseau was known to many, but left out of the usual Hollywood circles because of his questionable methods when it came to filmmaking. When he was finally heard and his talent recognised however, it became clear he was a passionate creator who enjoyed the freedom of artistic expression and pursuing his dreams despite all of the odds stacked up against him.
To-date, critics have lauded The Disaster Artist, with the film currently sitting with a brilliant 95% on reviews aggregate website Rotten Tomatoes, counting 44 write-ups in total. Just two of those 44 gave the film a less-than-positive score.
The critical response comes after the film picked up the top prize at the 2017 San Sebastián International Film Festival, as well as its screenwriters also winning the award for Hollywood Screenwriter Award at the Hollywood Film Awards.
It’s clear that The Disaster Artist has already impressed legions of viewers, so when it comes to British shores in December, it’s going to be very interesting to see exactly how the public respond.
The Disaster Artist comes to select cinemas on December 1 before hitting the big screen nationwide on December 6.
