The Woman In Black held off the challenge of The Muppets and Star Wars to top the UK box office as new entries dominated the top four.
The adaptation of the Susan Hill novel is the first post Potter role for Daniel Radcliffe and it grossed £3.1 million in it's opening weekend.
Radcliffe plays the central role of Arthur Kipps, a young lawyer travels to a remote village where he discovers the vengeful ghost of a scorned woman is terrorizing the locals.
James Watkins is in the director's chair for the movie while Jane Goldman adapted the screenplay.
The Muppets returned to the big screen this weekend but had to settle for second spot as the movie grossed £2.6m.
Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace, which has been re-released in 3D, was new at three while The Vow opened at number four.
Last week's number one Chronicle fell four places to this week's five while Journey 2: The Mysterious Island was also down four at six.
The Descendants, War Horse and Jack and Jill were also four place fallers at seven, eight and nine.
And Man On A Ledge was down four to wrap up this week's top ten.
