Thaddeus O'Sullivan has been announced as the director for The Secret Scripture starring Jessica Chastain.
Chastain has been attached to the project for some time, but has been a long search for the right director.
O'Sullivan has delivered movies such as December Bride and The Heart of Me, but this will be his first feature film since Stella Days back in 2011.
He has concentrated on TV projects more recently, with The Ark, Vera and Silent Witness under his belt.
Vanessa Redgrave will also star alongside Chastain, who takes on the lead role of Roseanne McNulty, a 100-year-old woman residing in a mental hospital who secretly writes a book detailing the challenges she faced as a result of religious and political upheavals in Ireland in the 1920s through to the 1930s.
With the mental home facing closure, sympathetic psychiatrist Dr Grene begins investigating her case and trying to piece together Roseanne's story.
The movie is based on the novel by Sebastian Barry, and has been adapted for the big screen by Johnny Ferguson.
No filming date or release date has been announced for the film.
