Tessa Thompson says that she was drawn to Creed because of her desire to work with filmmaker Ryan Coogler.
Thompson teams up with Coogler, Michael B. Jordan, and Sylvester Stallone as she takes on the role of Bianca in the latest chapter in the Rocky Balboa story.
Creed is only the second feature film for Coogler and comes two years after he made his directorial debut with Fruitvale Station. And it was the work that he did on this debut feature that made Thompson want to collaborate with him.
Speaking exclusively to us here at FemaleFirst, the actress said: "I was so inspired to work on the film before I had read the script or even knew what it was because of director Ryan Coogler. I had really loved his film Fruitvale Station, I thought that his collaboration with Michael B, Jordan was so special, and the idea of getting to work with the two of them was great.
"Ryan had a really personal reason to write this movie as it was born out of the relationship with his father and their relationship to the Rocky movies. I thought it was so unique and special and a chance to take something that is a rich part of film history and bring it to a new generation."
Creed has already been met with critical acclaim in the U.S. and Stallone picked up a Best Supporting Actor Golden Globe for his performance at the weekend. It sets to be another huge hit here in the UK.
Thompson is no stranger to the big screen with the likes of Selma and Dear White People already under her belt. However, Creed is one of the biggest films of her career and looks set to send her star rocketing.
She has already completed work on movies Salt Water and War on Everyone, the latter is set to show at the Berlin International Film Festival later this month. She is also set to return to the small screen with Westworld for HBO.
