Taken 3 has made it two weeks at the top of the UK box office, holding off the challenge from new release American Sniper.
Taken 3 took a further £3.2 million over the weekend to comfortably hold on to the top spot, despite not winning over the critics. Taken 3 is a movie that has already topped the U.S. box office. American Sniper was the highest new entry as it opened at number two.
American Sniper is based on the memoir by American Navy SEAL Chris Kyle, and sees Bradley Cooper take on the role of Kyle in the film. The movie also sees Cooper team up with Clint Eastwood for the first time.
The movie picked up a string of Oscar nominees last week - including Best Motion Picture and Best Actor for Cooper - and that success continues as it took £2.5 million at the UK box office in opening weekend.
There was no move for The Theory of Everything at three, while Into the Wood was down two places this week from two to four. Paddington was the second non-mover inside the top five, as it stayed put at five.
The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies was down two places at six, as it dropped out of the top five this week. Whiplash was a new entry at seven and is a movie that has been whipping up a storm with the critics. The movie premiered at the Sundance Film Festival last year, and went on to be one of the festival highlights of 2014.
It looks set to be another major breakthrough performance from Miles Teller, as the movie and J.K. Simmons picked up Best Motion Picture and Best Supporting Actor Oscar nominations last week.
Birdman was another major Oscar nominee a week ago, and it was the third non-mover inside the top ten, as it stayed put at eight. Wild - which is based on the incredible true story of Cheryl Strayed - was new at nine. While The Merry Widow - Met Opera 2015 was the fourth and final new entry at ten.
