Sylvester Stallone is to be directed by Jim Mickle in a new thriller.
According to Deadline, the 69-year-old action legend is teaming up with the filmmaker for the movie for STX Entertainment with Daniel Casey writing the script and Lawrence Grey producing through his company Grey Matter along with Ben Everard and Noah Rosen.
The project was initially called 'Godforsaken' but the title is to be changed.
Stallone will portray an ageing ex-con who is living with many regrets about his actions and is depressed about his estrangement from his family.
The character will learn that his son has died and he must break out of his mental state to protect the family members he still has and avenge his child's death.
The role is the most recent casting for Stallone following his Golden Globe winning performance as iconic Hollywood boxer Rocky Balboa in 'Creed'.
The 'First Blood' star is also making a move to the small screen and will play a mafia boss in Antoine Fuqua's TV adaptation of Mario Puzo's novel 'Omerta'.
The book - which was published in 2000, a year after the writer's death - is the final in the author's mob trilogy, which began with 'The Godfather' and continued with 'The Last Don'.
