Jay Hernandez has described Suicide Squad as the 'next step in the evolution of superhero movies.'
Hernandez is set to take on the role of El Diablo in Suicide Squad this summer, which will seem star alongside Will Smith, Margot Robbie and work with director David Ayer.
This will be the first time that the Suicide Squad characters have been brought to the big screen and Hernandez thinks it is the next stage in the comic book film.
Speaking to Coming Soon, the actor said: "Everything starts somewhere and is going to end somewhere. I think this is that next step in the evolution of superhero movies... [There are] characters from the other movies that have come in onto our project. It's interesting because, as a filmmaker and as a writer, you have to make it make sense.
"You have to find some way to infuse characters that aren't really part of the narrative, but still have it make sense and have it not just be this weird piece where you're setting up the other movie. It's fluid and it has to feel right."
El Diablo is set to be one of the biggest films roles of Hernandez's career to date as he continues to move between television and film projects.
Suicide Squad will be the first time that the actor has teamed up with Ayer, who is back in the director's chair for his first feature since Fury back in 2014.
Suicide Squad is released 5th August.
