Steven Spielberg revealed that he tried to land the role as Bond director twice... and twice he was rejected.
Spielberg approached the Bond franchise after the success of Jaws and then again after Close Encounters put was told that he wasn't 'right for the part.'
Speaking on the Michael Ball Show on BBC Radio 2, the filmmaker talked about his desire to direct a Bond film.
He said: "I called Cubby Broccoli [Albert - Barbara's late father] twice," said Spielberg, "and after Jaws which was such a huge success I thought, 'hey people are giving me final cut now.'
"So I called up Cubby and offered my services but he didn't think I was right for the part."
"Then even after Close Encounters came out and was a big hit - once again - I tried to get on a Bond film. And they still didn't think I was right for the part."
Bond 25 is in the pipeline and a director is yet to be named. We are also yet to find out if Daniel Craig will return or a new actor will take up the role.
As for Spielberg, he is back in the director's chair with his adaptation of The BFG is set to hit the big screen this week.
The BFG is based on the iconic novel by Roald Dahl and sees Spielberg reunite with actor Mark Rylance, who will take on the title role.
The duo previously worked together on Bridge of Spies, for which Rylance won a Best Supporting Actor earlier this year.
Ruby Barnhill will take on the role of Sophie while Penelope Wilton, Rebecca Hall, Jemaine Clement, Rafe Spall, and Bill Hader are all also on board.
Spielberg has wasted no time in moving onto his next project as Ready Player One is in the pipeline. The movie is based on the novel by Ernest Cline and will see Rylance, Ben Mendelsohn, T.J. Miller, Simon Pegg, and Olivia Cooke are on the cast list.
The BFG is released 22nd July.
